A large-scale fairy-tale drama entitled Friendlies (or Fuwa) has been directed by to Beijing Children's Art Theater Cooperative to promote the five mascots of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The fairy-tale drama tells of how the five animals come to be friendlies (or fuwa). The five animals Fuwa Beibei the Fish, Jingjing the Panda, Huanhuan the Flame, Yingying the Tibetan Antelope and Nini the Swallow use wisdom, courage and strength to beat the monsters fought five monsters one by one in ancient times, bringing peace to the world. After their victory, Huanhuan becomes the Olympic Flame and all five Fuwa become ambassadors of friendship and peace.
The show will utilize many dazzling stunts, most notably acrobatics. The difficulty of the acrobatic performances was said to reveal the spirit of Olympic competition.
¡°The Five Friendlies, the mascots of the Beijing Olympics, are to tour the world spreading friendship, peace and blessings. The first stop will be the United States, where the five Chinese cartoon figures will tour football fields, performing fairy-tale dramas and playing with local fans. And over the next two years, the mascots will visit all seven continents,¡± said the said Wang Hui, vice-director of the Communications and Media Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) when the fairy tale was first taken on stage in 2006.
"Prosperity, happiness, passion, health and good luck will be spread to every continent as the Fuwa carry an invitation to Beijing 2008 to every part of the globe," said Wang.
